NACE: challenging the more able - applying cognitive science principles to provide challenge in the classroom
Delegates will gain a good understanding of cognitive challenge, its key components, and why it is so important for more able learners. What should learners be experiencing if it’s being provided and what difference will it make?
Delegates will explore and develop an understanding of what current evidence-based cognitive theory and key research mean for more able learners and how these can be applied in the classroom to ensure the effective provision of high-quality cognitive challenge. This will include a focus on how retrieval practice can be modified for more able learners, how cognitive load should be effectively managed for more able learners, and how we build stronger schema for the more able.
