NACE: cognitive challenge and pedagogy - rich and extended talk, cognitive discourse and oracy
In this session, delegates will explore what is meant by oracy, rich and extended talk, and cognitive discourse, developing a good understanding of the importance of these in the provision of cognitive challenge for all learners.
A range of pedagogical approaches and learning tasks aimed at facilitating and supporting the development and implementation of cognitive challenge across the curriculum - through rich opportunities for classroom talk and cognitive discourse - will be exemplified and considered, providing delegates with strategies to apply in their classrooms and across the school.
Delegates will also develop their knowledge of how to support pupils in developing and effectively using high quality vocabulary and their understanding of how to create a talk-rich school culture.
