Hallfield School

Hallfield School

Hallfield is a leading co-educational day preparatory school for 570 children aged between 3 months and 11 years. Set in a 20-acre campus in leafy Edgbaston, just two miles from the centre of Birmingham, Hallfield is a Christian School (Church of England) which actively welcomes children from all faiths.

Since 1879, Hallfield School has offered an exceptional education for boys (and since 1995, boys and girls) which makes it the leading preparatory school in the Midlands and possibly the country. It is now a flourishing and highly successful co-educational day school.

However, the success of a school should not be judged simply on academic results. To the contrary, the School has always nurtured a strong hidden curriculum which cannot be measured by league tables where courtesy, manners, self-discipline and respect are valued and reinforced. It is this strong hidden curriculum which underpins everything that takes place at the School: happy children are successful children

The Schools aims are clear and concise:

To provide a safe, caring, happy and high achieving inclusive environment based on Christian principles, whilst welcoming children of all faiths to the School.
To develop each child’s full potential in academic, social, emotional, cultural and sporting areas.
Since becoming Headmaster of Hallfield in 2012, Roger Outwin-Flinders has steered the School through a successful inspection in January 2013, but he still continues to raise the bar with his expectations for the children and staff.

In February 2016, the Early Years Foundation Stage was inspected by ISI. The setting was assessed as ‘outstanding’ in all four areas of learning and, as a result, the overall effectiveness of the setting was assessed as ‘outstanding’.

In the last 3 years 97 scholarships to the leading independent Schools have been awarded to the Year 6 Leavers and last year 76% of Leavers were successfully offered places to their selected Local Authority Grammar Schools.

However, Hallfield is more than just successful results at 11+ Examinations. In 2013, the boys achieved the Regional finals of the Independent Schools Football Association Tournament at St. George’s at the National Training Centre in Burton-upon-Trent, where they finished a creditable 13th in the country. In 2013, the chess team became National IAPS champions for the 3rd time in four years: an incredible achievement. Recently Year 6 worked with the Young Shakespeare Company and produced their own version of Macbeth in just one week – to great acclaim from everyone, and, a Year 6 girl has been offered a place in the National Children’s Choir – an exceptional personal achievement.

There is something for everyone at Hallfield, but high standards are expected in everything the children take part in. Excellence and success are celebrated at every opportunity through Year group or School assemblies and, of course, the end of year School Prize Giving.
