Hurstpierpoint College Preparatory School
Hurst Prep is an IAPS school for boys and girls aged 4 to 13 years in West Sussex.
Hurst Prep is a very safe, caring and inspirational community where every pupil grows up confident that they are respected, valued, praised and cherished. Within this positive and supportive environment, our children thrive.
We build the ideals, values and attitudes that will enable our children to think for themselves and take responsibility for their own futures. Our children learn to understand the importance of integrity and gradually develop their personal moral compass that will guide them as they engage with their wider responsibilities to others and to the world beyond their communities.
Hurst Prep is proud of its innovative approach to mobile technology, in particular its Digital Pencil Case initiative. Every pupil in Years 7 and 8 is issued with an iPad and these are used to enhance the pupils’ learning, whether by getting to grips with online research or in one of the cross-curricular digital tasks set throughout the year. The children are clearly inspired by what they learn and soon take ownership of their independent study, presenting their work as e-books, presentation or even short films. Naturally we take the issue of internet safety for our children very seriously indeed; they are taught about child exploitation and online protection as part of their induction programme.
There is a huge range of activities on offer – and something to please everyone – from lunchtime musical clubs and ensembles to after school sports, Lego, Warhammer, science clubs and creative arts activities. Last year, a great many children gained their Bronze Arts Awards, a nationally recognised qualification.
Every summer, the Year 8 pupils embark on the Leavers’ Challenge – an expedition across the South Downs National Park, when they spend 5 days and 4 nights walking and setting up camp overnight. They return to the College, exhausted but elated to have completed the trek. It’s a great way to end their time as Prep School pupils and is a memory that the children will take with them throughout their school lives and beyond.
