St Lawrence College Junior School
St Lawrence College Junior School is an IAPS for boys and girls aged 3 to 11 years, located in Ramsgate, Kent.
"Children are happiest when their school work excites them, when they are recognised for their achievements and supported if needed, when they feel safe, and when they have time to play. At St Lawrence College Junior School we take great care to support each child, nurturing them to reach their potential in all aspects of school life." Mrs Ellen Rowe, Head
St Lawrence College Junior School offers a supportive, caring environment, based on traditional Christian values, in which children are given every opportunity to fulfil their potential. Academic expectations are high, but realistic and open-minded. Personal attention is given within small classes where talents are recognised and needs are catered for. There is a strong belief that education, in its truest sense, is measured not just in a student’s exam results but by its ability to open young people’s minds.
Most pupils transfer to the Senior School at 11+, and scholarships are regularly earned. There is also an excellent record of success at securing places in the highly-selective local grammar schools.
The Junior School is based in an attractive Victorian building in a peaceful corner of the 45 acre St Lawrence College campus. Its own independent facilities include a fully-equipped Science Lab, Art Studio, Music Department and Performance Hall, two fully-networked ICT Suites, adventure playgrounds, tennis courts and spacious playing fields. Membership of the wider College community gives pupils the best of both worlds, and they are able to share many of the Senior School’s excellent specialist facilities. Boarders are accommodated in a splendid, ultra-modern, eco-friendly purpose-built boarding house.
A wide range of extra-curricular opportunities includes sports such as football, rugby, hockey, cricket, rounders, netball, athletics, cross-country running, swimming and dance. There are plenty of fixtures against other schools, but, most importantly, children learn the value of fitness, cooperative teamwork and good sportsmanship. There is a proud musical tradition, and plenty of scope for drama and the creative arts. Some Activities take place at the end of the school day, but most are concentrated into the popular, informal Saturday morning programme.
St Lawrence’s Christian heritage underpins all that the Junior School stands for. An atmosphere of trust and mutual respect is based on kindness, forgiveness and consideration for others. There is a strong emphasis placed on thoughtful conduct, courtesy and good manners, and on endowing young people with a clear sense of moral responsibility.
