A school-record-breaking fifteen boys at Pilgrims’ are celebrating gaining music awards to top senior schools.

This remarkable feat includes six awards to Winchester College, two to Eton and to Churcher’s, and single awards to each of Harrow, St Paul’s, Radley, Sherborne and King Edward VI School. A huge achievement for these boys, the awards reflect their individual effort combining with the depth and range of instrumental tuition offered at the school alongside singing in one of our many choirs. The current crop includes three Winchester Cathedral Choristers, two Winchester College Quiristers and, equally, ten boys who are neither.

Director of Music at Pilgrims’, Russell du Plessis, said of their achievement; “I’m incredibly proud of them. They are an especially committed and collegiate group of genuinely musical boys; their success is well-deserved.”

Headmaster and former Pilgrims’ music award winner himself, Tim Butcher, stated; “We are incredibly proud of the determination and hard work of every single boy who auditioned for an award. That fifteen gained one is testament to them and to the dedication and encouragement from all the teaching and music staff. This really is fantastic news for our school community.”

As a unique ‘double-choir’ school giving a huge range of opportunities to all, Pilgrims’ inspires an understanding and appreciation of music in every boy, and the life skills and joy that come from abundant music making together.
