About us

Located in Howard House and surrounded by extensive gardens, our Junior School offers a unique environment for girls to learn from Years 3 to Year 6 (aged 7 – 11).

The Junior School is passionate about girls’ learning and strives to build and develop curiosity and enthusiasm, allowing our girls to enjoy days filled with creative lessons, friendship and adventure in an environment where learning is both exciting and fun. We aim to develop the strengths of each girl by providing her with opportunities to stretch and challenge herself through all aspects of school life: from the academic to the social.

Our ethos of personal development is firmly underpinned by our strong and supportive pastoral care structure, which means our girls feel safe to try new things and understand that making mistakes is part of their learning journey. As she progresses through the Junior School each girl will grow in confidence, and learn to push her own boundaries yet further while developing a life-long passion for learning.

The Junior School is at the heart of the BGS community and enjoys close links with the Senior School staff and pupils. Our girls benefit from being part of a vertical House system building relationships with pupils across the school from Year 3 to sixth form, providing mentorship, role models and support in a fun and creative environment. Benefiting from excellent facilities and first class teaching, Bedford Girls’ School Junior School is an exciting foundation for your daughter.

BGS student Honoured as First Sea Lord Cadet

Bedford Girls' School is celebrating the appointment of Year 11 student Emily Borner as a First Sea Lord Cadet (CCF RN/RM) for 2025. The Investiture Day took place onboard HMS Victory on Friday 31st January, marking a significant moment in her cadet career.

This prestigious appointment, one of only three awarded to CCF Royal Navy cadets nationwide, recognises Emily’s dedication and ability to inspire others. The ceremony, held in Nelson’s quarters, was attended by senior Royal Navy officers, including the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Ben Key, KCB, CBE, ADC, who presented Emily with her certificates and badges in the Great Cabin. Following the investiture, the cadets toured HMS Prince of Wales in Portsmouth.

As a First Sea Lord Cadet, Emily will represent the Royal Navy Cadet Force at national events, high-profile ceremonies, and ship visits throughout the year. She will wear the distinguished No.1 uniform, signifying her role as an ambassador for the Corps.

The CCF programme, run in partnership with Bedford School, provides students with valuable opportunities to develop teamwork, leadership, resilience and practical skills. Through regular training and activities, students gain first-hand experience of discipline and responsibility, which are highly transferable beyond school life. Many students who have participated in the programme have gone on to successful careers in the armed forces, inspired by their time in the CCF.

Reflecting on the day, Emily said: "Meeting the First Sea Lord onboard HMS Victory was an incredible experience. Speaking with someone so inspiring and engaging with fellow cadets who share my interests was truly memorable. The weekend’s ambassador training covered communication, presentation and media skills, but the highlight for me was hosting a dinner at RMR London. As President of the Mess, I ensured the evening ran smoothly and oversaw timings for speeches and events. I am excited for the year ahead and grateful for all the support I have received."

CCF Lieutenant in the Royal Navy, Mrs Milton, added: "I am so proud of Emily’s achievements. This is a huge honour for her and Bedford School CCF. The opportunities ahead of her are endless, and I wish her all the best for her forthcoming engagements."

BGS Alumna to represent GB at Paris Olympics

Bedford Girls’ School alumna, Revée Walcott-Nolan, is set to compete in her second Olympic Games this summer in Paris!

Revée, who graduated from Bedford Girls’ School in 2013, will join a star-studded lineup that includes Olympic, World, and European medallists such as Keely Hodgkinson, Josh Kerr, and Laura Muir.

Representing Team GB, Revée will compete in the 1500m event against some of the world’s best athletes. She has surpassed the qualifying time for Paris, set at 4:02.50, on three occasions this season. Her first qualifying time was recorded at the recent Golden Spike event in Ostrava, where she clocked 4:02.32.

The silver medallist at the British Championships competed in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Reflecting on her experience, Revée noted: “I learned a lot in my first Olympics, especially about how small the margins are when racing at that level. I made a few tactical errors in my heat, which is something I’ve been working on improving ever since.”

Since the Tokyo Olympics, Revée has been training with the ON group of professional distance runners, honing her skills at altitude in South Africa and Switzerland.

Bedford Girls' School is immensely proud of Revée's achievements and wishes her the very best as she aims for glory in Paris. Her dedication and hard work continue to inspire our students and the entire school community.
