The theme
This year’s theme was chosen by IAPS Art Subject Advisor, Charlotte Bell - Head of Art & form tutor at Caterham Prep and chose the theme to be “Reflect” or “Reflection”.
“This year's theme 'Reflect’ has been chosen to inspire children to explore a wide range of creative ideas. We are eager to encourage as many schools as possible to participate, and I hope this broad theme allows teachers the flexibility to engage with it in ways that best suit their students.”
“As Head of Art at a Prep school in Surrey, with experience leading art departments at both Prep and Senior schools, I am deeply passionate about the role creativity plays in children's development. While I’ve always encouraged my students to participate in art competitions, I recognise that themes or timings can sometimes present challenges. With this in mind, I hope this open-ended theme will be accessible and inspiring to as many schools as possible.”
Children were encouraged to consider the theme broadly; examples included, but were not limited to:
-
A reflection in a mirror or shiny surface.
-
A reflection on water.
-
Reflecting on the past year or a significant event.
-
Reflecting on a current global issue.
Children were encouraged to work in a range of media - painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, sculpture - as long as it linked to the theme.
