About us
The school has an ethos that hinges on a dynamic balance of relaxed unpretentiousness and academic discipline which has been described as ‘robust informality and relaxed rigour’. The Dragon is a co-educational day and boarding school which has offered a unique educational experience to generations of pupils aged 4-13. Our distinctive approach encourages enquiry, confidence and enthusiasm in a quintessentially English school environment. The beautiful campus and dedicated pre-prep are located just north of central Oxford – the oldest University city in the land. The breadth of intellectual and philosophical challenge underpins an expansive academic curriculum, a wonderful programme of sport and an extraordinarily creative programme of music, drama and art. A range of superb facilities, first-class teaching and plenty of space for both sport and play allows children to develop their unique gifts and talents. “We chose the Dragon because it combined excellent academic qualities in a co-educational environment with an extraordinary offering of extra-curricular activities” Parent The Dragon prides itself on providing a safe and happy environment in which to learn. With an informality that builds trust and allows children to develop a sense of responsibility and respect for others, pupils are helped to become well-rounded, confident, independent and motivated – all the attributes they will need to become socially adept and emotionally intelligent adults. Boarding at the Dragon begins from age 8, in small, family run boarding houses. The family feel within the boarding community is strengthened by boarders returning to their Houses throughout the school day. “The quality of pupils’ achievements and learning is exceptional” Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) Dragons go onto a vast range of senior schools, notably Eton, Winchester, Wycombe Abbey, Radley, Cheltenham Ladies College, St Edward’s Oxford, Rugby, Harrow, Marlborough, Wellington, Oundle, Magdalen College School, Headington and many more. Preparatory years at the Dragon lay the firm foundations of a successful education at senior schools in the UK and beyond. “The Dragon isn’t just the education we wanted for our children, more importantly it’s the childhood we wanted for them too.” Parent “I believe that the happiness and wellbeing of our pupils and teachers is the key to excellent achievement, with every individual feeling understood and valued. Here at the Dragon, day and boarding pupils, overseas pupils and those living closer to home are all nurtured and cared for as individuals. At the Dragon, friendships are made and lessons learned that will last a lifetime. Please do come and visit us to see for yourself, where you will be assured of a very warm welcome."
