About us

St. Helen's College is a family-run, co-educational IAPS school for boys and girls aged 3-11 in Hillingdon, Middlesex, with a 2+ kindergarten.

It has a well-deserved reputation for affordable academic excellence. Most St. Helen's College children win places at their first-choice schools and ex-pupils are currently studying at all of the local senior independent schools and many of the Buckinghamshire and Berkshire grammar schools. The school's aims are as follows:

  • To nurture a love of learning and to develop fully every child's academic potential.
  • To encourage all children to develop their talents and interests by participating in the widest range of challenging activities.
  • To instil traditional Christian values and to nurture strength of character, so that children will be ready to face, with integrity and confidence, the many challenges of adult life.

St. Helen’s College has a remarkable team of caring and dedicated teachers who inspire pupils to become life-long learners. A comprehensive programme of lunchtime, after school and weekend activities is offered, which includes dance, drama, music, a wide variety of clubs and a huge selection of sports. Children achieve excellent standards in these areas and grow into well-rounded, confident young people during their time at the school.

St Helen’s College Centenary Art Exhibition and Concert

St Helen’s College finished the summer term, and a year of Centenary celebrations, with a special Centenary Art Exhibition and Concert this week. Both events took place at the Winston Churchill Hall in Ruislip, a fitting venue for celebrating the arts.

The School transformed the theatre lounge into a dedicated Art Exhibition space for the day, complete with tropical plants, soft music and refreshments. Parents, pupils and staff had the opportunity to peruse artwork created by every child in Years 2 to 6. The variety of techniques and artistic talents on display was testament to the children’s creativity in the school Art Studio under the tutelage of Art Lead Mrs. Nadine Pruce.

In the evening, the Centenary Concert showcased the extraordinary standards reached by the School’s many vocalists, instrumentalists and public speakers. With around one hundred pupils involved, the audience enjoyed performances from the Junior Choir, Senior Choir, Chamber Choir, Orchestra and Massed Choirs, as well as accomplished solo performances from vocalists and instrumentalists. In addition, four children performed individual spoken recitations of poetry or dramatic extracts. The guitar and strong ensembles performed in the lobby as guests arrived.

Ms. Shirley Drummond, Head of St. Helen’s College said, ‘This really was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the arts at St. Helen's College. Thank you to all of the families and staff who supported the event, and congratulations to the children who created such incredible artwork and/or performed on the stage. It was a fitting celebration to round off a year of Centenary celebrations, and an opportunity to reflect on the creative legacy of this very special school. It was an event we will never forget.’

St. Helen's College Unveils Centenary Sculpture

St. Helen’s College, Hillingdon have unveiled a specially commissioned sculpture by artist Jessica Wetherly to celebrate the school’s Centenary. The statue, commissioned by Mr. and Mrs. Crehan, proprietors of the school, was unveiled at the annual Summer Fete attended by current families, alumni and members of the local community in Hillingdon. The sculpture represents two St. Helen's College children cradling the globe and has been installed in the grounds close to the entrance to Upper School.

Artist Jessica Wetherly says, ‘I was delighted to contribute to the Centenary celebrations and the future community of St. Helen's College in this way, through the creation of a sculpture. I saw the representation of the globe to be of curiosity in the world around us and an active striving for global consciousness. The sculpture was designed as a symbol of offering and receiving.’

The sculpture is made from clay on a welded metal armature. Once finished, the figures were cast in concrete using the waste moulding process. This method was selected as it is one of the more sustainable practices in sculpture to avoid use of materials which are harmful to the environment.

Head of St. Helen’s College, Shirley Drummond, says, ‘We are delighted to mark our special Centenary year with this beautiful sculpture, the perfect symbol of our pupils' vital role in shaping the future of the world. The future is in their hands. Sustainability is at the heart of the school so the connection to the environment reflects our passion for preserving the planet. We are very proud of all that St. Helen’s College and our pupils have achieved over the past one hundred years and look forward to all the exciting achievements to come.’

St. Helen’s College Pupils Meet Pen Pals in France

Year 6 pupils from St. Helen’s College have returned today exhausted but elated after an extremely busy, successful and enjoyable week-long residential trip at the Chateau de la Baudonniere in Normandy, France. The trip included a wide range of activities, one of the highlights being the opportunity to finally meet their French pen pals. The children have been corresponding by letter throughout the year and on the trip enjoyed playing Guess Who and many other fun games with their French contemporaries.

The trip offered the children the opportunity to become immersed in the French language and culture, and take part in a wide range of educational and fun activities. They visited a goat farm, made bread, tried out various French foods, visited Mont St. Michel, had a go at a muddy obstacle course, made some purchases at a French market and much more! The trip has been a brilliant experience to aid self-development, independence and offered an opportunity to try new things and support each other away from home.
