Writing Twilight - Challenge in Primary Writing with NACE
This course explores the big picture of writing in schools, including the multiple strands of provision that need to be right, including children and young people’s right to write as a means of self-expression and creativity. Moving on to writing in English lessons, we will consider the planning and delivery of effective writing in fiction and non-fiction, highlighting the importance of purpose and audience and their impact on writers’ choices. The course will end with exploration and modelling of the relationship between effective teaching of grammar in the context of a strong and stimulating writing curriculum.
Course objectives:
- Support delegates to define writing’s role in their English curriculum, including writing for pleasure and writing’s place as part of creative arts and as a means of self-expression.
- Consider the importance of identifying purpose and audience in the planning of all writing.
- Explore links between effective teaching of grammar in the context of a strong and stimulating writing curriculum.
