An Excellence Visit at Dumpton School, Deans Grove House, Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 7AF
Dumpton School warmly invites colleagues to a collaborative Excellence Visit centred on Character Education and Global Citizenship. This visit, which will also include contributions from Cheam School, is intended as a space for shared exploration and professional conversation, bringing schools together to reflect on how character and values are intentionally nurtured and to exchange best practice.
The morning will explore Character Education as a concept, recognising it as an existing strength of our sector, whilst exploring the emerging body of evidence that can help guide even more effective implementation and impact on our pupils. There will be a chance to hear from both Dumpton School and Cheam School about their approaches to Character Education, and a workshop will then offer time to delve deeper, share experiences, and consider how character education can be meaningfully developed within different school contexts.
ISI recognised the impact of Dumpton's work in Character Education as a Significant Strength, noting:
“Pupils have a well-developed social conscience and feel empowered to make the world a better place. They demonstrate self-confidence and leadership skills and are proud of the positive impact their initiatives have made.”
At Dumpton, this recognition is closely connected to the school’s belief that character education lies at the heart of pupil wellbeing, supporting young people to feel purposeful, connected, and confident as global citizens.
Cheam School was recently awarded the ‘School of Character’ Quality Mark making it the first stand-alone Prep School to be recognised. The award, provided by the Association for Character Education (ACE) recognises the quality of learning, values-driven cultural environment and personal development programme made available to all pupils within the Cheam School community.
Timings for the day:
9.30am to 12.30pm, with lunch available afterwards
