Bedford Preparatory School
Fundamental to the Bedford ethos is the belief that children learn more when they are happy and secure and to this end we ensure that every boy, day boy or boarder, receives a high level of pastoral care and individual support. In an atmosphere where pupils and staff mutually enjoy each other’s company and parents are closely involved with every aspect of their sons’ education, the boys visibly grow in confidence and ability as they progress through the school, well prepared and eager to face new challenges.
The curriculum is broad, with additional languages and ICT skills taught alongside the traditional disciplines. Boys are exposed to a range of learning styles to make the journey a fun experience, this is enhanced by the school’s virtual learning environment, an exciting development that provides a valuable range of resources to support learning such as summary notes, homework details and discussion forums. The child-centred ethic of the Preparatory School is evident everywhere. Boys are welcomed in to a caring school family and settle in happily as they forge close friendships, many of which will last for a lifetime. In the classroom, traditional practice is enhanced by innovative teaching and a forward thinking approach that balances academic, creative and sporting activities, all vital ingredients to personal growth. Bedford has an enviable reputation for sporting success and at every level of ability the boys are encouraged to take an interest from an early age. With acres of glorious playing fields, top class facilities and expert coaching, the pupils can have a go at huge range of team and individual sports. The arts are equally well supported; Bedford School is particularly noted for music with a large proportion of boys choosing to learn an instrument and taking part in the extensive and varied musical programme. Add to the mix an amazing menu of after-school and weekend activities and it is easy to see why the young boys quickly become enthused and involved with the life of the school.
