Food Technology - From Kitchen to Classroom; making cookery work in Prep Schools
Would you like to add Cookery and Nutrition to your school’s curriculum but lack the necessary facilities? This course is designed to help you get started, even with limited resources. You’ll learn how to run a successful program using portable cooking equipment like induction hobs, air fryers, and toaster ovens, while teaching essential health and safety skills. The course will begin with a talk on how to adapt practical cooking lessons in different environments with limited facilities. The program includes two practical cooking sessions: the first in the morning and the second after lunch, where participants will engage in creating easy, healthy dishes while building confidence in the kitchen. By the end of the course, we hope you will feel more confident in starting cookery and nutrition in your school. You will be equipped with practical skills, lesson plans, and advice on how to use portable equipment in the absence of full cooking facilities, ensuring you’re ready to launch a successful program.
As the day includes two practical cookery sessions, participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for a kitchen environment. For safety and hygiene reasons, long hair should be tied up during the practical activities.
