Music: Compose Yourself!

1 May 2026 9am – 4.45pm Subject Channing Junior School, N6 5JR

Join us for a day of inspiration, hands-on workshops, and practical strategies to bring composition to life in your classroom!

  • Amy Evetts, HoD at Headington Rye and IAPS Music Consultant, will show you how to ignite creativity in KS1. Discover practical approaches to classroom management, keep the joy in music-making, and explore ready-to-use projects you can implement immediately.

  • Mimi Munro, HoD at Channing Junior School, will take you through Starting with a Story in KS2. Learn how to use texts to spark composition ideas, develop skills in notation, and explore music production software.

  • Rachel Shapey from I Can Compose will focus on Years 7–8. She’ll share what effective composition practice looks like and offer creative approaches that will get both your classes—and you—fired up and composing with confidence.

Expect to get hands-on: play percussion, experiment with your devices (please bring a computer, iPad, or phone), and, if possible, bring your instruments. We’ll provide a range of options to explore and create in our workshops.

Leave inspired, equipped, and ready to make composition an exciting, engaging part of your music teaching!
