The Grammar School at Leeds Junior School
The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) Junior School is part of a vibrant school community that teaches children from the age of 3 through to Sixth Form.
Children can join GSAL from the age of 3, with entry to our pre-preparatory department Rose Court, which is based on its own site in Headingley, Leeds. Admission to Junior School is at age 7 (Year 3), with children progressing from Rose Court as well as from other schools in the area. Sharing extensive landscaped grounds in north Leeds with our Senior School, the Junior School benefits from its own purpose built accommodation as well as the facilities and open space enjoyed by the whole school. In addition to the core curriculum pupils learn French, music and sport, with more specialist subjects such as ICT being gradually introduced to ensure they are thoroughly prepared for their transition to Senior School. Beyond the classroom children have the opportunity to try a wide choice of extra-curricular activities from baking to board games, crafts to cubs and a full spectrum of sporting activities. The Independent Schools Inspectorate 2011 reports that Junior School pupils “thoroughly enjoy school life…Their achievement is supported by their positive attitudes to learning, and by the warm relationships they enjoy with each other and their teachers.” Admission to Junior School is subject to satisfactory performance in an age appropriate assessment, which includes tasks in English, Mathematics and reasoning, together with a report from the child’s current school.
